Driving 101: Jairam's Way
===========================================================
I went to work early today, I was on the road by 5:30 a.m. and I enjoyed driving. Sweet mellow music, no traffic and no annoying cab, jeepney or bus drivers - yet. This afternoon is another story. Sigh. What's my usual driving mood? Infuriated. Who wouldn't be when you meet different "personalities" on the road? Personalities will be those who feel like they own the road and manage to occupy both lanes or drive zigzags, drivers who make sudden turns or change lanes without a signal, those who are always late for their appointments a.k.a. speed drivers who have mistaken the road for a race track, and then there are those who drive like turtles but stay on the fast lane...and the list goes on. Grrrr...!
What are the traits of a good road runner?
- obeys traffic rules and drives within the limit
What are the traits of a good road runner?
- obeys traffic rules and drives within the limit
- replaces broken/missing side mirrors, head lights or tail lights
- does regular car maintenance check-ups, no to carbon monoxide!
- no high beams pleeeeaaaasssseee
- blows horns only when necessary
- respects the rights of pedestrians
- gives way when needed
- if you really need to use your phone, pull over
- when listening to the radio, keep the volume to yourself and make sure you'll be able to hear my horn
- follow the golden rule of driving "if you drink don't drive, if you drive don't drink"
- always bring your license with you, don't drive if you don't have one
- get rid of those big noisy muffler Don't attempt to destroy my eardrums or you'll pay for it big time!
- lastly, if you can't follow all of the above, stay away from the road ; use a bicycle or walk because it's good exercise and you'll save on gas money
Isn't it obvious? I want you off the road...you m---n!
hahaha. i remember when me and my friends went to los baños. my friends were totally shocked to see all the cars taking their rime on the road. as in hindi nagmamadali. then we realized, what's the rush? di din naman kami nagmamadali. might as well, enjoy the driving and relax :)

hay naku Tin, dapat talaga ganyan. if you know that you should be early for a meeting or something e di leave early di ba? hindi yung mamemerwisyo ka pa ng ibang drivers dahil sa kaka rush mo, mamaya ma aksidente pa. lagot!

After all this time you're still not used to Pinoy drivers? Better get used to it, Jane. Been driving for almost 30 years and I still have yet to see any improvement in the Pinoy's driving habits.

is it true na kapag sa manila ka natutong mag drive eh the nest driver ka na sa buong mundo? o kwentong barbero lang ito, hehehe. buti nalang di ako marunong mag drive, mukhang nakakakunsume sa kalye...

i don't have a driving licence!! i definitely won't enjoy horrible drivers on the road. and 5.30am is seriously early for you to be driving to work!!!
Posted by Anonymous | 7/04/2006 03:14:00 PM
Uh oh. Guilty ako dun sa noisy muffler. Not my fault though. I bought a second-hand car and it was already set-up that way...
Other than that, mabait naman ako sa road. :-). I also hate people with very bright headlamps, especially those who don't lower their lights when approaching another vehicle. Darn.

my hubs doesnt really wish me to know how to drive here in Pinas!
he reckons, i'll be dead sooner than i should be. =D

Yeah Philippine traffic..hehehe.. Here in Norway it's the pedestrians that rules the street. All the cars stop when a pedestrian passes by. The drivers here are also very considerate and polite and follows traffic rules religiously or face a very big fine or worst the confiscation of your drivers license.

been here. hehe.
be safe in driving.

Posted by j | 7/04/2006 11:48:00 PM
that's what i heard too Cruise, kasi nga daw magaling lumusot at magpasikot-sikkot ang Pinoy
Posted by j | 7/04/2006 11:49:00 PM
do the road a favor then Imp don't drive until you get a license. 530 is early? my work started at 6am. sigh.
Posted by j | 7/04/2006 11:53:00 PM
iyan. iyan ang nakaka-high blood sa umaga. walang signal light biglang kakaliwa o kakanan. may kaliwa't kanan in the blink of an eye. may matakaw, dalawang lane ang kinakain. may tanga, di alam kung saan pupunta.
sabi nga ng isang german friend ko:"what did you guys do to get a license? drive a carabao?"
Posted by atticus | 7/04/2006 11:53:00 PM
yun nga Kuya Nick, nakakabulag yun at night eh. meron namang iba, as if di-kuryente, madilim na pero ayaw pa ring mag on ng head lights at tail lights. haaay,,,
Posted by j | 7/04/2006 11:55:00 PM
TK : buti naman po Doc, he he
Posted by j | 7/04/2006 11:55:00 PM
Princess of CJ - i believe your hubby is correct :( you either die because of an accident or because of a heart attack dahil sa kunsumisyon!
Posted by j | 7/04/2006 11:58:00 PM
hi Charles, i think the Phillippines ought to learn to impose stricter traffic rules like Norway's ... no to kotong gang, that's another story altogether
Posted by j | 7/05/2006 12:02:00 AM
thanks Ymir...drive safely too :)
Posted by j | 7/05/2006 12:04:00 AM

If I had a peos for every time a cussed at a stupid driver, I would be rich. haha! it's worse in New York. :)

Kudos to you for driving in Manila! I drive everyday and consider myself to be a pretty good driver, but I don't think I can handle the traffic there.
Posted by JMom | 7/05/2006 02:29:00 AM
Posted by nixda | 7/05/2006 04:36:00 AM

Unfortunately, I don't drive.

hello hanagirl, I would have billions myself, ha ha
Posted by j | 7/05/2006 10:18:00 AM
if I have a choice JMom, I wouldn't be...it's always a pressure driving here in Manila. just this morning a jeepney almost hit me. I wanted to scream at the driver but then again, that's a waste of energy :(
Posted by j | 7/05/2006 10:21:00 AM
naku Neng, kahit may mga traffic signs hindi nasusunod dito. madalas nga ang daming beating the red light, ang 1 way nagiging 2 way...
Posted by j | 7/05/2006 10:22:00 AM
Posted by j | 7/05/2006 10:25:00 AM
Posted by j | 7/05/2006 10:26:00 AM
good for you Jeeper, ang hirap maging driver ano. takot naman akong mag commute baka lalong mapadali ang buhay ko dahil sa walang pakialam na cab driver or mga holdaper ng taxi... kakatakot din ha
Posted by j | 7/05/2006 10:27:00 AM
ruleno chuvA: if nt driving, dont be a backseat driver... it's so f**** irritating!
Posted by yuri | 7/05/2006 12:15:00 PM
ha ha, I so hate it when hubby criticizes my driving kapag sakay ko siya...kakainis talaga inaaway ko nga!
Posted by j | 7/05/2006 12:31:00 PM
talagang nakakainis di ba?
Posted by j | 7/05/2006 12:48:00 PM
;) hehehe...

Posted by ♥ mommy author ♥ | 7/06/2006 09:59:00 AM
Kathy, hindi lang kayo ang ganyan. Kame din ni hubby, ganyan na ganyan :(
Posted by j | 7/06/2006 04:11:00 PM
hubby has a short temper, too, with motorists who think they're co-owners of the roads and national highways. but i always tell him, it's not worth having fights with these people.
