Zoobic Isn't Just For Kids

For a change, our family (Dad, Mom, only sibling Jerome and hubby D) went to Subic for the Zoobic Tour and a close encounter with the tigers. The place being the only Tiger Safari in the country was originally located in Calatagan, Batangas until the owner eventually moved the zoo and bred more tigers in Subic. The entrance fee of P395/$8 (20% discount for senior citizen card holders like Mom) entitles you to the following activities :
1. Tiger Safari - a close encounter with the tigers. The group rides a jeepney and brings a live chicken (P200/$4) to lure the tigers to go near you. With this activity, four tigers are out on the lose and the expectators are caged inside the jeep. The experience left us totally breathless although I didn't like it when chicken blood strewed on my jeans. The last touch would be a visit to their cages just behind the farm.
2. Savana Ostrich - you have the option to ride their train (for an extra fee of P50/$1 per person) or bring your own car for the ride inside the large Ostrich farm. Here, you will also find ducks and chickens being raised.
3. Serpentarium - An old American bunker was converted into a show room of reptiles from African snakes, to iguana and turtles.
4. Animal show and picture taking with the cubs (with extra fees).
5. Crocodile farm (a bigger pond is under construction to accommodate bigger species)
6. The soon to open Rodent World.
It was one of a kind experience and we enjoyed every part of the tour. Who says the zoo is just for kids?
I didn't know that...(taken from Zoobic's posters)
- a group of geese on the ground is called a "gaggle"; a group of geese in the air is called "skein".
- rats and horses can't vomit.
- it is physically impossible for pigs to look up into the sky.
- a fullgrown bear can run as fast as a horse.
- it takes more than 45 minutes to hard boil an ostrich egg.
- ants don't sleep.
- a cow gives nearly 200,000 glasses of milk in her lifetime.
- crocodiles never outgrow the pool in which they live.
- iguanas, koalas and komodo dragons have 2 reproductive organs.
- cats have over 100 vocal cords while dogs have about ten.
Zoobic Safari is found in Group I, Ilanin Forest, Subic Bay Freeport Zone (about 40 minutes drive from the gate). For reservations, you can call their Makati office at (02) 899-9595 loc. 344 or text 0917-8351111. You can also visit their website at www.zoobic.com.ph. the zoo is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
